Account Strategist

Brief Job Description:

In coordination with NP Strategy team members, assist in project management efforts. Work to ensure client goals are being met through effective messaging, strategic communications, social media, and media relations. Specialists must have a team-focused, “team-first” mindset and be willing to quickly and accurately execute tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work closely with NP Strategy client teams to assist in provided services to include message development, strategic communications, media relations, marketing and social media, among others

Work closely with NP Strategy project leads to serve clients by:
– Creating content for, and managing client’s social media channels
– Creating content for, and managing client’s newsletters
– Creating written content such as press releases, editorials and articles for earned and paid media placement
– Creating graphic design content
– Overseeing the updating of website content, newsletters, brochures, and other external communication pieces
– Developing messaging and talking points
– Assist with marketing strategies with Nexsen Pruet lawyers
– Manage events, when directed
– Manage client calls and tasks on behalf of project lead, when directed
– Proactively work with other team members, especially coordinators and interns, to help appropriately leverage workloads.
– Manage marketing opportunities such as podcasts and webinars
– Meet annual billable and collections goals
– Be flexible and willing to work after hours if needed for a client or team project goal

Required Skills:
– Undergraduate degree in journalism, marketing, communications, English or similar field.
– At least 3 years of experience in related field.
– Must demonstrate initiative, be highly organized, able to manage multiple projects while prioritizing work assignments, and able to work well with clients, including attorneys and staff at Nexsen Pruet as well as fellow NP Strategy team members.
– Strong communication, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills.
– Excellent writing skills and experience developing and executing communication plans and campaigns
– Ability to evaluate opportunities for business development and determine ROI.
– Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Drive, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Acrobat Pro a plus.
– Willingness to work at Nexsen Pruet office locations.
– Willingness and ability to travel to serve clients and team members.
– Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

Primary Purpose of Position:
The Marketing and Communications Specialist will partner with the North Carolina Museum of History Community Engagement and Marketing team to implement marketing, branding, and public relations communication plans – plans to drive awareness to the North Carolina Museum of History and the multitude of exhibits and programs offered annually.

Key Responsibilities:
Marketing & Communication Strategy
Reporting to the Community Engagement and Marketing Section Chief and partnering with both the Section Chief and the Digital Marketing Manager, this position will collaboratively create, implement and maintain over time a comprehensive marketing & communication strategy for the North Carolina Museum of History. The objective of the strategy is to promote the North Carolina Museum of History, its mission and its constantly changing exhibits and programs. This position will align favorably with the public and various stakeholders;and, ultimately support museum and program attendance. This includes developing new strategies and creative, innovative approaches to reach targeted audiences with specific high impact messages as well as marketing campaigns for specific projects. The marketing strategy and campaigns will be representative of participant demographics, program features, and benefits.

Partner with Key Constituents
This position will partner with the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, the North Carolina Museum of History Foundation, the North Carolina Museum of History Associates, and other stakeholders to assist in creating a complementary communication strategy consistent with the overarching goals and objectives and mission of the museum. An effective strategy will communicate the museum’s features and benefits, reflect an understanding of the target audience, and inform key stakeholder groups. The Marketing and Communications Officer will assist with developing and maintaining a working relationship with various media outlets, advertisers, community partners and publications and work with all museum departments, including Collections, Curation, Design and Editorial Departments;and, the North Carolina Museum of History Associates and the North Carolina Museum of History Foundation.

Content Development
The position will create influential and results-oriented communications including, but not limited to press releases, newsletters, talking points, feature articles, digital content, including Social Media and Website, weekly external and internal email announcements, advertising and promotional material and internal communications including memorandums, presentations, materials and reports plus responses to participant and stakeholder inquiries, including press.

Other key components of this position:
Ability to craft strategic communication plans and translate those high-level points into deliverables within a limited budget. Excellent creative writing, presentation and communication skills and direct experience working with the press. A strong work ethic, creative mind and team approach are essential. A collaborative spirit is crucial. Night and weekend work are periodically required. The Director of Communications and Marketing, upon their discretion, will occasionally assign special team projects.

The Division of State History Museums collects and preserves artifacts and other historical materials relating to the history and heritage of North Carolina in a local, regional, national and international context to assist people in understanding how the past influences the present. The division interprets history through exhibitions, educational programs, and publications available to the visitor on-site or through distance-learning technologies. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet ALL the following KSA’s listed below:

Demonstrated working knowledge of creative and corporate writing including: experience writing and editing according to correct English usage, AP Style and accepted standards of magazine and press publications.
Demonstrated working knowledge of the techniques of disseminating information to the public (including planning content calendars, writing and editing) through the utilization of a variety of communication vehicles such as press releases, e-news, talking points, etc.
Demonstrated proficiency with Photoshop and utilizing media monitoring and social media management software.
Demonstrated knowledge of advertising- including experience in media planning and placement, as well as writing ad copy.
Must be able to work some nights and weekends.
Note: If selected for an interview, a portfolio will be required to include writing examples including press releases, talking points, blogs and e-mail newsletters showcasing a creative and captivating writing style.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, media journalism, English, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in communications, public relations, or publicity work;or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Description

The Director of Communications & Engagement will lead an effort to share the good work of the Foundation and its grantees with relevant constituencies, including nonprofit and community leaders. If you have a passion for turning insight into big, bold ideas and are willing to both strategize and execute communication plans in service of non-profit organizations, we need you. We’re looking for a communicator and creator who understands how to use digital tools to gain and validate audience. The best candidate will also be adept at marrying the digital realm with in-person events to increase engagement with AJF grantees.

Our Director of Communications & Engagement will develop and implement communication and brand awareness strategies to increase the visibility of the Foundation and grantee organizations. This position will require a combination of online communications (social media, web presence), public relations, event management, and brand building expertise.

Primary Responsibilities

Develop regular, original web content to engage a targeted audience regarding AJF’s work
Manage AJF’s website, grantee portal, and social media platforms
Develop a relationship management system that tracks relevant AJF constituencies
Manage press releases, media availability, and regular communications (newsletter, podcast, etc.)
Develop and execute a robust schedule of AJF events and convenings designed to support AJF grantees and create a sense of community
Lead complex projects with minimal supervision, while providing appropriate context for internal stakeholders
Play an active role in internal brainstorm meetings and challenge convention by creating, innovating, and presenting new ideas
Provide counsel to AJF grantees in the form of meetings, memos, and presentations
Utilize analytical tools to track impact and engagement of AJF’s audience
Work cross-functionally with other colleagues and partners
Maintain self-driven passion, creativity, and curiosity to stay abreast of current trends affecting nonprofit organizations, AJF grantees, and digital communications
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university
Minimum 2 years of experience in communications with experience working in a digital environment, ideally in content creation and strategy
Event planning and project management experience a plus
Demonstrated ability to apply research insights to strategy development
Successful track record of developing thoughtful and strategic projects that deliver measurable impact
Strong verbal, written, and analytical skills
Demonstrated experience and passion for the digital media tech landscape, including social media platforms and digital analytics, as well as monitoring and research tools

The Director of Communications and Engagement will be compensated with an annual salary between $65,000-$72,000 (based on experience) plus a generous benefits package that includes health insurance, retirement contributions, and paid time off.
